ADEPT-Shabaka Policy brief reflecting on diaspora humanitarianism

19 August 2021

Shabaka and ADEPT have published a policy brief to mark this year’s World Humanitarian Day, which has a specific focus on climate change. With crises such as COVID-19 and climate change threatening communities around the world, today’s diasporas play a crucial role in humanitarian responses, but are not always recognised as central humanitarian actors.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has forced humanitarian and development organisations to change their approaches, especially in the light of travel restrictions. Diaspora organisations and development NGOs alike have had to adapt to providing humanitarian responses, and diaspora organisations and networks have shown how they can be quicker to adapt than larger organisations.”
