UN Global Compact on Migration (GCM)

On 24 July, ADEPT’s Interim Director Gibril Faal made a presentation on ‘How to expand and enhance the contribution of migrants and diasporas in all aspects of sustainable development’, at the opening panel of the ‘Fourth Thematic Session of the Global Compact on Migration’. The session was opened by the GCM Co-Facilitators Amb. Jurg Lauber and Amb. Juan Jose Gomez Camacho, and SRSG Ms Louise Arbour. The panel was moderated by Amb. Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Egypt. The other speakers were Prof Melissa Siegel, Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, and Mr Najim Azahaf, Bertelsmann Stiftung.

On 26 July, Gibril had a meeting with SRSG Louise Arbour, and participated in the ‘First GCM Multi-Stakeholder Hearing’, where he presented the civil society recommendations of the 2017 GFMD. The Hearing was opened by Amb. Peter Thomson, President of the General Assembly. The meetings were organised by the Office of the UN President of the General Assembly (OPGA) and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG), held at the UN HQ in New York.
