The Twelfth Global Forum on Migration & Development Summit

More than 500 representatives of civil society from over 117 countries, as well as representatives from governments and international organizations, gathered in Quito, Ecuador from 20 to 24 January to deliberate on “Sustainable approaches to human mobility: Upholding rights, strengthening state agency, and advancing development through partnerships and collective action”.

ADEPT was represented by its President, Khady Sakho Niang, its Policy Advocacy Manager, Luiza Soares and its Advisory Council Member, Gibril Faal during the 5 days Summit.

Member of ADEPT. AFFORD’s Deputy Director and GFMD‘s Civil Society Days’ Co-Chair Stella Opoku-Owusu gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the Summit where she urged everyone in the room, governments, local authorities, business leaders and civil society, to ensure that it is the reality of migrants’ lives that inform the processes, from the bottom-up and not the other way around.

During the last day of the 12th GFMD Summit, Gibril Faal and Luiza Soares participated in the UN Network on Migration. The meeting discussed the 2020 plan, RMRF’s and the Philip Grande Trust Fund.
