ADEPT AT “THE REGIONAL MEETING FOR AFRICA ON THE INTERNATIONAL DECADE FOR PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT”

On 23-24 October 2019, ADEPT attended the Regional meeting for Africa on the international decade for people of African descent in Dakar, Senegal. The event was organised by the United Nation Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, in cooperation with the African Union Commission and hosted by the Government of Senegal.

The meeting aimed to:

  • Enhance knowledge and awareness of African Governments and stakeholders about the International Decade for People of African Descent and its Programme of Activities
  • Increase engagement and commitment of partners and stakeholders to implement the Decade at the national and regional levels
  • Enhanced implementation linkages between the AU Agenda 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Programme of Activities of the Decade
  • Adoption of a Declaration for the region of Africa on the International Decade for People of African Descent.

At the second day of the meeting, Onyekachi Wambu, AFFORD Executive Director, ADEPT member based in UK, participated as a panelist on the topic of: “Developing The Bridges Between Africa and The Diaspora”.
