My name is Dabo Soumaila, I am the president of the Malian Council of Italy. I was born in Mali and currently live in Italy.

The Malian Council of Italy was created on the basis of the “High Council of Malians from Abroad”, which, in turn, was created in Mali in 1991. The objective of the creation consisted in gathering together Malians living abroad, so that they can collaborate with the Malian state.

Therefore, all Malians living in different countries of the world were invited to meet in Bamako in 1991 to be able to set up an associative structure that represents them. We aimed at encouraging socio-cultural, economic and political contribution of the diaspora to the development of Mali.

Today, this organization still exists and has been able to develop and evolve through its representations in many countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and America. The Malian Councils are based around the world and collaborate with civil society in the host countries of the Malian diaspora, as well as other countries.
