ADEPT October Webinar in partnership with AU CIDO

Diaspora Representation in the African Union

Tuesday 31 October 2017 – 03:30 PM to 05:30 PM BST

ADEPT’s October webinar in collaboration with the African Union Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (CIDO) will take place on Tuesday 31 October 2017 from 03:30 to 05:30 PM British Summer Time / 16.30-18.30 CET.

As the designated ‘sixth region of Africa’, the role of the diaspora and how this can best be represented is an important issue for the African Union and Member States alike. The AU is therefore in the process of drafting legal framework to enable effective diaspora representation at the AU, working with Applied Law & Technology (Pty) Ltd in South Africa. Key questions include who should be represented, how, and using what mechanisms?

As part of this, The Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (CIDO) of the African Union has been carrying out consultations with the African diaspora worldwide. AU CIDO is keen to hear from members of the African diaspora based in Europe.

This ADEPT – AU CIDO webinar will give participants an opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas with CIDO staff and feed in to the AU CIDO consultation process on diaspora representation.

The discussion will focus on how the diaspora can have a stronger voice at the AU and the ways in which diaspora representation could work best for Africa and its diaspora.

Speakers:

Mr Gibril Faal, Founding Director of ADEPT
Ms Eiman El-Kheir, Policy Officer, AU CIDO
